The Tellington Touch Method
03/14/04 Administrator

TTouch™ - the Tellington-Touch - is a method for enhancing the physical, mental and emotional well-being of your companion animal based on cooperation and respect. It is used to support veterinary care, training and behavior modification. An additional benefit is a deeper rapport between humans and animals through increased understanding and more effective communication.

Tellington-Touch offers positive solutions to common behavioral and health related problems, such as inappropriate aggression, car-sickness, separation anxiety, excessive barking, chewing, jumping up, leash pulling, resistance to grooming, nervousness, shyness, fear of thunder, etc. It can help promote good health and ease problems associated with aging for many different species.

TTouch is a series of specific, non-invasive gentle circular movements, lifts and slides applied to the surface of the skin all over the animal's body. This allows us to detect and ease tension, fear pain and discomfort, which limit cooperation and influence the animal's character. TTouch is also largely used to accelerate healing following an injury and/or illness. The ground exercises used build confidence, enhance coordination and increase the ability to learn. Animals learn to act out of self-control rather than react out of fear.

TTouch can be used in combination with veterinary treatments to assist with recovery from illness or injury. It can help our older animals function with minimum discomfort, or enhance the quality of your animal's life in general.

Origins of TTouch

The Tellington-Touch method grew out of Linda Tellington-Jones' extensive range of experience with animals of all kinds combined with her study as a student of Dr. Moshe Feldenkrais. The Feldenkrais Method works with the human nervous system and is known to be successful in improving athletic ability and increasing function in cases of paralysis and chronic pain. Linda realized that the same principles could be applied to animals.

Who Uses TTouch?

TTouch is being used by pet owners and professionals - groomers, pet sitters, trainers, animal behaviorists, breeders, veterinarians, vet technicians, competitors in agility, obedience, tracking, zoo personnel and shelter workers. In short - everyone!

It has been taught at the University of Vienna School of Veterinary Medicine in Austria and at the University of Hanover in Germany. TTouch is used on domestic animals, wildlife and humans by over 300 certified practitioners in 32 countries.
